Mountain Spirit Mask

This mask was made by the Nuu-chah-nulth Mowachaht of Nootka Island out of cedar, bark, and feathers. The mask represents the mountain spirit. Mountain ranges dominate the northwest coast. Native Americans believe that powerful spiritual beings built their homes on the mountains, and mountains are often personified in myth and art.
