Did You Know?

The Student Union's Grand ballroom will seat 700 theater style and 500 banquet style, with full presentation technologies for large student, university and community events.

Building the Future

The new student union will be a key facet of NKU's overall academic enterprise. It is a place where learning will continue outside the traditional classroom. The word "union" is used purposefully. It paints a picture of a place where diverse students (age, ethnic background, full-time, part-time, etc.) come together. While this building will include spaces for specific groups, an attempt in its design has been made to cluster spaces together in the hope that a diversity of use, rather than a singular group, will result.

The student union will serve multiple constituencies: commuter students, resident students, faculty, staff, alumni and visitors. While the building will be designed to effectively accommodate these groups, consideration will foremost be given to overall student functionality.

The student union, perhaps more than any other facility on campus, will be the place that will foster the sense of community that is the essence of any memorable college campus. It is the place of refuge, the beacon, the heart, the family room of the campus. A University campus is a village, a community of people with diverse backgrounds but with a singular purpose. The campus provides a haven from the "real" world, a retreat that offers one the opportunity to expand horizons and enrich one's life. The new student union will speak to this ideal.
