US Bank College of Business Named Among the Best

NKU’S Haile / US Bank College of Business Named Among the Best

Northern Kentucky University Haile/US Bank College of Business is once again among the top 296 business schools in the nation and one of the best in the region, according to The Princeton Review’s “The Best 296 Business Schools: 2013 Edition.”

“It’s an honor to be included again in Princeton Review’s best business schools,” said Dr. Rick Kolbe, Dean of the Haile/US Bank College of Business at NKU.  “We have an excellent faculty committed to the students and to providing a solid foundation in business principles.”

The Princeton Review's survey asked 19,000 students at the top AACSB-accredited MBA programs in the world their opinions of their school's academics, student body and campus life as well as about themselves and their career plans. The student surveys analyzed for this edition were all completed online and conducted during the 2011-12, 2010-11, and 2009-10 academic years.

Instead of a hierarchical list of business schools, the Princeton Review has 11 ranking lists of the top 10 business schools in various categories. NKU’s Haile/US Bank College of Business ranked high in the academic experience category with a score of 80 out of 99 and high in professor accessibility with an 88.

Students remarked that NKU’s “greatest strength” is “the coursework itself. Professors are passionate about their subjects” and many have “very relevant real-life experience to impart.” Among the faculty mentioned are the former director of human resources of a major public utility, a consultant who specializes in turning businesses around, and a finance professor who works as a Certified Finance Planner on the side.

“The College faculty are constantly re-examining what we do in management education,” stated Dean Kolbe. “Our faculty believes the current business climate requires us to be  vigilant and flexible, creating programs that prepare our students for this challenging environment.”

Consequently, this year the MBA program was completely restructured.  “The global business climate is dynamic and fluid. To be successful, business people need to be able to gather information, interpret it and respond quickly,” says MBA director Ned Jackson. “We’ve developed an innovative program that stresses the core business area that provide the skills that make our MBA graduates highly successful. We expect our annual ratings to increase as a result of the revised program.” This program began in the Fall of 2012, and student response has been very positive to the new format.

According to Robert Franek, Princeton Review Senior VP-Publisher, "We consider Northern Kentucky University one of the best institutions a student could attend to earn an MBA. We selected the schools we profile in this book – 280 of which are in the U.S.A. and 16 are international -- based on our high regard for their academic programs and our reviews of institutional data we collect from the schools."

NKU  is one of 60 schools (about 20% of the 296 profiled) in the book that appear on one or more of the book's 11 ranking lists.
