Welcome Week 2013
Welcome Back #NorseNation!
Welcome Week 2013 begins friday, Aug. 16!
We've got some annual traditions which are student favorites as well as some new and exciting activities planned for this year's Welcome Week. The week kicks off on Friday, Aug. 16 with New-Student Move-In Day in the Residential Village as well as New Student and Parent Convocation in the Bank of Kentucky Center and the Votruba Student Union.
Fun events are planned the next day and through the rest of the week! Events like a black, gold & white paint fight, outdoor movie, hypnotist, comedians, musical performances, and a giant student involvement festival called FreshFusion pack the week full of welcome!
You might be wondering, "Why is it so important that I take time to see a hypnotist or a comedian? I'm going to college to get a degree and then get a job." Well, several wise university representatives have been quoted as saying, "This is college...you can work for the rest of your lives." Studies have shown that student who engage inside and outside of the classroom are more successful in college and have better chances of continuing on to graduate school or securing a job upon graduating. A 4.0 grade point average is a tremendous accomplishment, but if you don't have something to supplement that on your resume, you may not stack up to the rest of those applicants.
Welcome Week is also the start for our fall sports at NKU. Be sure to check out some amazing Division 1 action with our Men's & Women's Soccer teams as well as our Volleyball Team who finished their first D1 season with an astounding 25-7 record! Be sure to check the full sports schedule at nkunorse.com.
NKU's Greek Community
Another great way to involve yourself outside of the classroom is by becoming a member of NKU's Greek Community. We have fraternities and sororities that have been at NKU for 30+ years or as recent as last year. Either way, upon initiating, you will be part of local Greek history as well as a national Greek community that could lead to innumerable networking opportunities.
- Individuals interested in Sorority Recruitment should register online for their formal recruitment process which occurs Sept. 5 - 8.
- Individuals interested in Fraternity Recruitment should stay tuned but remember that the formal recruitment process begins on Sept. 8 and ends Sept. 13.
