GoNorse App Makes Following NKU's
D-I Athletics Program Easier than Ever
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University Office of Information Technology has released a new mobile app that allows Norse fans to keep up to date with NKU athletics.
GoNorse provides up-to-the-minute NKU athletics information via the app’s news ticker in addition to schedules, ticket information and event promotions.
The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and OIT collaborated on the project, showcasing NKU’s ability to be at the forefront of university technology. Students from NKU’s Center for Applied Informatics also contributed to the app. The app comes as NKU continues its first year at the NCAA Division I level and in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
“As we transition to Division I, Athletics decided we needed to keep up with the tremendous growth of NKU, both athletically and technologically,” said Tim Ferguson, NKU chief information officer. “GoNorse will put athletic information in fans’ hands, where they can access the information in a user-friendly manner.”
Brittany Booth, marketing and promotions director for Norse Athletics, said the goal was to provide a user-friendly app that gives instant information about NKU athletics. “I think with the move to Division I and into the Atlantic Sun, it was important to provide our fans with easy access to information,” she said. “ We have a great website and strong social media presence, but this will make it easy for fans to follow NKU.”
Booth said she gathered input from several staff members in Norse athletics, including Director of Athletics Scott Eaton. Most universities, including large BCS schools, don’t have an athletics-only mobile app, according to Booth. “NKU is ahead of the curve,” she said.
The app features a news ticker that scrolls across the bottom of the device screen as the user navigates different NKU sports via a 3-D carousel wheel. Users can click on a sport icon, which will take them to that sport’s roster, schedule and news. There are also icons for NKU’s official student spirit group, the Norse Force, as well as athletics photos and a virtual tour.
GoNorse has been developed for both iOS and Android. To download for iOS, visit https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/gonorse/id600121562?mt=8. For Android, visit https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nkunorse.gonorse&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5ua3Vub3JzZS5nb25vcnNlIl0.
