LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The
Northern Kentucky University women’s
soccer team claimed its sixth straight victory Sunday afternoon by
downing Bellarmine, 2-1, in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
The
win pushes NKU to 12-2 overall and 8-2 in the GLVC, and puts
the Norse in the hunt to host a first-round game in the GLVC Tournament
on Nov. 2.
The Knights (9-5-2,
4-5-1 GLVC) opened the scoring in the 18th minute when Brittany
Nakatani notched her team-best eighth
goal
of the season
after a direct free kick by MacKenzie Prather. Bellarmine kept
the pressure on in the first half, allowing just two shots from
the NKU
strikers to hold on to the 1-0 advantage at the break.
The Norse
scored early in the second half when Megan Smith sent a strong
through pass ahead to Kara Costello, who raced in for
the
equalizer and her fifth goal of the season. Amie Noll tallied
the winner in the game’s final 10 minutes, putting home
a Brandi Doss corner kick for her second goal of the season.
Goalie
Angela Healy made two saves for the Norse in the win.
NKU
wraps up the regular season on Oct. 26 by hosting Indianapolis
at the Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder, Ky. Kickoff
is scheduled for noon. |
