LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University women’s soccer team claimed its sixth straight victory Sunday afternoon by downing Bellarmine, 2-1, in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.

The win pushes NKU to 12-2 overall and 8-2 in the GLVC, and puts the Norse in the hunt to host a first-round game in the GLVC Tournament on Nov. 2.

The Knights (9-5-2, 4-5-1 GLVC) opened the scoring in the 18th minute when Brittany Nakatani notched her team-best eighth goal of the season after a direct free kick by MacKenzie Prather. Bellarmine kept the pressure on in the first half, allowing just two shots from the NKU strikers to hold on to the 1-0 advantage at the break.

The Norse scored early in the second half when Megan Smith sent a strong through pass ahead to Kara Costello, who raced in for the equalizer and her fifth goal of the season. Amie Noll tallied the winner in the game’s final 10 minutes, putting home a Brandi Doss corner kick for her second goal of the season.

Goalie Angela Healy made two saves for the Norse in the win.

NKU wraps up the regular season on Oct. 26 by hosting Indianapolis at the Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder, Ky. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
