ELEMENTARY MATHEMATICS EDUCATION ASSISTANT PROFESSOR



Northern Kentucky University’s College of Education and Human Services seeks to continue building a diverse faculty who value classroom equity and who are committed to advancing an agenda of public engagement in both rural and urban settings.  This agenda includes engaging in regional stewardship and conducting applied, meaningful research appropriate to regional issues. Letters of application should address the candidate’s interests in teaching and scholarship, commitment to advancing an agenda of public engagement in both rural and urban settings, and the ability to teach on line courses.  All position applications should also include a current resume, the names of 3 professional references, and graduate transcripts (unofficial accepted at the initial stage).  Salary and benefits are competitive.  Positions begin August, 2010 unless otherwise noted.

Review of applications for all positions will begin in November 2009 and continue until the positions are filled.  Faculty positions are tenure track, 9 month (Chair for the Department of Counseling, Social Work, and Leadership position is 12 months), with competitive salaries and possible summer employment.  The Social Work Field Director position is a non-tenure track three year renewable position with varied teaching loads.  Electronic submissions will be accepted.

CHAIRPERSON – DEPARTMENT OF COUNSELING, SOCIAL WORK AND LEADERSHIP:  The Department of Counseling, Social Work, and Leadership invites applications for department chair.  The department offers undergraduate and graduate students rich experiences in social work, school and community counseling, play therapy, and human services.

The department seeks a chair who will:
• Facilitate a strong emphasis on teaching excellence through dedication to undergraduate and graduate student learning; 
• Mentor and collaborate with faculty;
• Engage in collaborative planning to develop and promote innovative programs; 
• Assure high quality programs committed to preparing students to work with diverse populations;
• Promote ongoing partnerships and public engagement programs;
• Serve as a strong advocate for the department in the college, on campus, and with community agencies;
• Manage fiscal planning of the department’s budgets in order to forward the department’s mission;
• Develop and support efforts to secure external research and development funds; and
• Work across the disciplines of kinesiology and educational foundations to include all department faculty.

Qualifications: Candidates must have an earned doctorate and expertise in one or more of the department’s academic areas, with preference given to candidates with expertise in a discipline of counseling, social work or leadership.  In addition to a record of scholarly and community engagement accomplishments, candidates should have strong interpersonal and communication skills, an entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to articulate a vision for the department within a learner-centered regional institution.  A record of successful collaboration with other campus units, school districts, and external agencies should be evident.

The Department of Kinesiology and Health

HEALTH/WELLNESS EDUCATION ASSISTANT or ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR:  Candidates must have an earned doctorate (ABD considered) in Health Education or related field from an accredited institution with clear demonstration of skills in lifetime wellness; evidence of successful college teaching experience and/or clinical experience; record of/or potential for scholarly activity; potential to secure external funding; and skill in the use of emerging educational technologies.  Responsibilities include:  teaching undergraduate health content courses (e.g., personal health/wellness, community health, drug & alcohol education, sexuality education, introduction to health education, etc.), disciplinary content and pedagogy courses, P-12 health education methods courses, and supervise practicum students and student teachers.  All tenure-track faculty are expected to demonstrate continuous activity in a defined scholarly areas, and willingness to involve and mentor undergraduate students in research and public engagement projects.  Candidates will also be expected to serve on departmental, college, and university committees, and provide service to the profession and community.

The Department of Counseling, Social Work, and Leadership

EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP, Ed.D. ASSISTANT or ASSOCIATE or PROFESSOR:  NKU is seeking faculty to teach, mentor, and advise in the University’s first Ed.D. in Educational Leadership for experienced, fully-employed P-16 education leaders and practitioners. The program is designed to develop “practitioner scholars” by enhancing the effectiveness of local/regional educational leaders through: 1) increasing the knowledge, skills, and dispositions shown to promote learning and development; 2) enhancing the ability to inspire others within their organization and community to excel; and 3) engaging them and their institutions within the broader community to increase the educational attainment, economic viability, and livability of our metropolitan area.
Qualifications for the Ed.D. positions include an earned doctorate in educational leadership or related field, a record of excellent teaching at the graduate and/or doctoral levels, a bent toward innovative thinking about the nature of effective leadership, a national reputation for scholarship and innovation in educational leadership, an interest in community-based (systems) approaches to enhancing education in a region, and considerable interest in and experience with working among school-based practitioners.  Teaching assignment may be both the traditional schedule and the weekend cohort program.
 
Additional requirements include the ability to:  teach graduate courses on-campus, off-campus, and online; advise graduate students, conduct scholarly research, publish, and perform service to the university and profession. An appropriate candidate should have the ability to work with diverse student populations, use and model technology, and communicate effectively with colleagues, staff, and students.  Experience in developing doctoral and masters degree coursework and guiding doctoral dissertations is preferred.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: helping to shape programs that seek to lead in innovation in the preparation of leaders for tomorrow’s schools, classroom, districts, and colleges.

SOCIAL WORK ASSISTANT or ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR (2 positions):  The Bachelorette Social Work Program has been a CSWE accredited program since 1979. A new Master of Social work program begins August 2010. We welcome applicants with direct practice, scholarship, and teaching experience. Additionally, we seek applicants with success in social work curricular development, and the development of community partnerships.

Candidates should have a Master of Social work from a CSWE accredited program, and a doctorate in social work. ABD’s in social work will be considered given a dissertation defense date. COUNSELOR EDUCATION ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE/FULL PROFESSOR:  Candidates for this position will have an earned doctorate in Counselor Education by employment date of spring, 2010 or fall, 2010.  Responsibilities include: teaching, research, service and program support in a masters-level Professional Counseling Program in northern Kentucky. Specific responsibilities will include teaching courses leading to certification/licensure in professional counseling and school counseling, an active, productive program of research, student advisement, and service to the program, department, and university. The successful candidate will teach courses on both the undergraduate and graduate level.  REQUIRED -area of interest school counseling, demonstrable evidence of scholarship or potential for scholarship (as evidenced by publications, presentation, grants, current research, etc.); and licensed, or eligible for licensure, as a LPC in the state of Kentucky

PREFERRED - university teaching experience in a graduate counseling program; experience working as a school counselor; demonstrated leadership in program, university and professional service activities (as evidenced by vita); experience supervising practicum/internship, experience teaching courses in the areas of School Counseling and Research/Assessment Methods; Certified as a school counselor in the state of Kentucky (or eligible for certification); clinical experience with diverse populations; and an earned doctorate from a CACREP accredited program.

ELEMENTARY MATHEMATICS EDUCATION ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, TENURE-TRACK: We are looking for a dynamic faculty member eager to teach, mentor, and advise the next generation of teachers. Candidates must have an earned doctorate in the area of mathematics education with a specialization in elementary and/or middle grades education or related field (ABD considered) and preference will be given for individuals with one, or more, of the following: at least three years of elementary and/or middle teaching experience (K-8), significant experience working with student teachers, college teaching experience, a desire to work with schools, online teaching experience, and individuals who increase the diversity of our faculty.

Additional requirements include the ability to supervise practicum students and organize the practicum experience with schools, teach mathematics education and other education courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, develop electronic portfolios, conduct scholarly research, publish, and perform service to the University and profession. An appropriate candidate should have the ability to work with diverse student populations, model the use of technology, and communicate effectively with colleagues, staff, and students.

Responsibilities may include: Teaching undergraduate and graduate mathematics education courses both on campus, off-campus, and online, supervising field experiences, working collaboratively with colleagues in Arts and Sciences and in urban/suburban/rural field-based programs, engaging in scholarly activity, working with the Kentucky Center for Mathematics (http://www.kentuckymathematics.org), academic advising, and community and university service.

The Kentucky Center for Mathematics is a statewide center charged with improving the teaching and learning of mathematics at all levels. The KCM offers on-going professional development for mathematics educators, supports these teachers as they implement the strategies learnt during the training sessions, evaluates the efficacy of this professional development programs offered and provides resources for teachers. Through its Primary Mathematics Intervention Program, Mathematics Coaching Program and Adult Education program the KCM is working with educators in 101 of Kentucky’s 120 counties.

The KCM funds reassigned time during the academic year and summer stipends to provide faculty members’ with opportunities to engage in mathematics education research; apply for external funding to support mathematics education research and outreach; and develop and implement curriculum innovations and enhancements.
