Journal of Kentucky Studies
Journal of Kentucky Studies is a professional journal promoting scholarly and creative work both from Kentucky writers and Kentucky subjects.
An annual publication distributed to state and national venues, JKS is meant as an outreach program that seeks to create a bridge from the English Department and Northern Kentucky University to the local, state and national community on professional, academic and creative levels as well to foster interest in literary scholarship and creative writing.
The Journal of Kentucky Studies features scholarly articles on history and literary criticism as well as personal narratives, short fiction and poetry. Black-and-white photography is also accepted.
Guidelines for submissions
The Journal of Kentucky Studies welcomes articles on any theme -- art, commentary, critical essays, history, literary criticism, short fiction and poetry. Black-and-white photography is also accepted. Subject matter is not restricted to Kentucky.
All manuscripts should be double-spaced and follow the University of Chicago Manual of Style. Copy should be submitted in triplicate with a self-addressed stamped envelope and an email address included. Turn around time on submissions is typically six months.
Although we have no restrictions on length of prose fiction or non-fiction, most manuscripts which find their way into our pages are typically about 20 typed, double-spaced pages: 6000 words or less. The quality of the submission is the final arbiter.
We have no restriction on the style or subjects for our published poetry. Submissions, however, should be limited to 3-5 lyric poems or 1-2 longer forms.
The Journal is published yearly by the Northern Kentucky University Department of English. Statements of fact and opinion are made on the responsibility of the authors alone. All articles and other correspondence should be sent to:
