I have to admit that part (c) is really hard. That was an accident: I changed the form of the recurrence relation at the last minute, which wrecked what should have be pretty routine problem. And I didn't catch it. By the way, the closed form solution of the recurrence relation is That can be shown through a couple of tricks (limits, and insight...). It ain't easy....
