Study Do's for the NKU Student
- Your Approach to learning
- DO...be enthusiastic about learning.
- DO...pay attention in class.
- DO...attend class every day.
- DO...come to class prepared (with pencils, paper, book, questions...).
- DO...ask questions and participate in class, because it's YOUR class.
- Your Colleagues
- DO...make friends with other students in the class.
- DO...find others to work with.
- DO...exchange phone numbers with other students and call them to discuss
class work.
- DO...get help from your professors.
- DO...ask for clarification when you don't understand.
- Your Preparation
- DO...read over class notes every day.
- DO...work on homework every day.
- DO...work carefully and neatly so that you may take pride in your work.
- DO...practice, practice, practice.
- DO...start preparing for exams well ahead of time.
- DO...persevere. When stuck, be creative and try another line of approach.
- Your Expectations
- DO...expect to spend what seems like A LOT of time on math and computer science.
- DO...expect to sometimes feel frustrated, confused, lost, overloaded, etc.....
- DO...realize that everyone else at times feels frustrated, confused, lost,
& overloaded..
- DO...realize that you will sometimes have bad days (or bad weeks, or
months, or even bad semesters).
- DO...be confident in your ability to do your best.
- DO...learn from your mistakes.
- Yourself
- DO...take responsibility for your own learning.
- DO...be aware that college math is different than high school math (expect
to have to work harder and do more learning on your own).
- DO...realize that you are unique, so you may learn differently than anyone
else in your class (so don't try to compare yourself to others!).
- DO...be aware that your professor is only judging your work as
demonstrated in one particular class (your professor is not judging
you!).
- DO...know that you are a special and important person, no matter
what letter grade you get in your math or computer science class!
