Portfolio Review Prep

Randel Plowman received his M.F.A. in printmaking from University of Wisconsin-Madison and his B.F.A. from Northern Kentucky University. He has exhibited in solo and juried exhibitions throughout the United States; in addition, his work appears in many public and private collections in North America and abroad, his work has been cited in numerous publications, including The New York Times and USA Today; been featured in The Paris Review, How Design Magazine, Artist Magazine and Somerset Studio. He is the author of two books, Masters: Collage, and The Collage Workbook: How to Get Started and Stay Inspired. Plowman currently teaches printmaking at Northern Kentucky University.

Ben Huber was born and raised in Northern Kentucky. He received his BFA from Northern Kentucky University in 2001 and has since held numerous art related jobs, such as professional mold maker for Louisville Stoneware and scenic sculptor for River City Scenic, before returning to NKU to become the ceramic and sculpture facility manager and project coordinator. He has exhibited both nationally and internationally, and co-founded The Furnace, an artist-in-residence in Louisville, Kentucky. He has taught at Northern Kentucky University, Queen City Clay and led clay related workshops at the Cincinnati Art Museum. While clay is his primary medium, his portfolio also includes large-scale mixed media installations, sculpture, public art, and functional objects.

Joshua Maier received his BFA from Bowling Green State University of Ohio in 2004, studying Creative Writing and 3D Art. He received an MFA in Ceramics & Sculpture from the University of Missouri in 2016. As an artist Josh identifies with Fine Craft movements and focused material studies, having extensive experience in clay, hot glass, woodworking, metal fabrication and fiber arts. He creates forms that unify a number of unexpected materials as a means to bolster variety, and explore ideas of presenting tactile materials in harmony. The works take shape as strange and often surreal biomorphic forms based in science-fiction aesthetics. Josh exhibits his works regionally and nationally; and has works in a number of notable collections in the US and abroad. Julia Sebastian is a Northern Kentucky based artist who received an MFA from the University of Cincinnati, DAAP and a BA from Transylvania University in Lexington, KY. Sebastian’s studio work of predominantly drawing and digital work has been shown nationally and internationally. Sebastian has taught at the University of Cincinnati and Antioch College, and is currently a Lecturer of Visual Arts in Foundations at Northern Kentucky University.

Charlie Thacker completed his MFA at University of Cincinnati's College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning. His mixed media and paintings have been exhibited across the United States and in multiple publications. He works collaboratively with many artists in the greater Cincinnati area and maintains a studio and research practice involving kinetic art and systems thinking. Charlie teaches studio art and design classes at Northern Kentucky University and Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. 

Paige Wideman is an Ohio-based artist who received an MFA in Sculpture from the University of Cincinnati and a BFA in Sculpture from the Kansas City Art Institute. Her studio work explores the concepts of time, culture, and spirituality through found materials and objects. Wideman is the author of Art Appreciation: an organic approach to art textbook used at Northern Kentucky University where she has been teaching for the past 25 years. She now serves as the Director of NKU Galleries and Outreach within the School of the Arts.

Ariana Profitt is an artist born and raised in the Northern Kentucky area. She is currently working towards a BFA in Integrative Media with focuses in Printmaking, Drawing and Painting and a projected graduation date of Spring 2024. Ariana takes pride in her background as an African American woman, using this to aid in her work about justice and identity.

Anjel Robinson is a 20-year-old multimedia artist majoring in animation at NKU. With a love of all things sci-fi, fantasy, and anime, she enjoys creating narrative-based art as well as her own comic strips and characters.
