The "Roaming Dome" is an inflatable planetarium that can come to your space to be part of your event. We will travel up to 50 miles from NKU. We have programs for all ages and audiences.
Requests must be made at least 3 weeks prior to your desired event date.
The dome may only be set up indoors, on a solid floor, and needs a fairly quiet location with minimum background noise. We need access to a three prong electrical outlet. The footprint is 20'x25' and needs at least a 12' ceiling. The portal dome holds roughly 45 kids in 2nd grade or roughly 35 adults at one time.
Programming can be customized for your needs, but most events will have 15 or 25 minute rotations with a 5 minute break in between each rotation. You can view programs from our regular selection; we can also do constellation tours. We need at least 30 minutes for set up before the event starts and 30 minutes for tear down after the last program.
$50 per hour for NKU Groups (if the event is on campus)
$100 per hour + mileage for school and educational groups (2 hour minimum)
$200 per hour + mileage for entertainment/special events (3 hour minimum)
There is also an additional mileage fee, based on your distance from Northern Kentucky University (roughly $7 per every 5 miles, up to 50 miles). Locations beyond 50 miles may be taken into consideration.
For school groups wishing to visit campus and the planetarium, Community Connections hosts elementary and middle-school groups during spring and fall semesters.
Group visits typically include an interactive discussion about college, NKU facts and fun, a student-led campus tour, and an academic component in the planetarium.

School group visits and private shows scheduled outside of our normal business hours will cost $100 for a group of up to 60 people for one (1) hour. Additonal hours can be purchased for $50 per additonal hour and additional services and activities may be available for $50 each. Visits MUST be confirmed with planetarium and NKU staff before making a payment.
