NKU inducts eight honorees into Athletics Hall of Fame

Northern Kentucky University inducted eight former athletes and coaches into the David Lee Holt NKU Hall of Fame in a ceremony on Saturday, Jan. 11. The 2024-2025 athletics hall of fame class includes Mark Fisher, Angela Healy Jones, Kevin Jordan, Zach Koehler, Daryl Landrum, Drew McDonald, Amanda Mason Peyton and Brenden Stowers.

Mark Fisher (’85) made his mark on NKU’s Men’s Soccer program from 1982 to 1985 as a forward and center back. During Fisher’s four-year tenure on the team, NKU Men’s Soccer won three NAIA District championships. Individually, he earned NAIA All-American honorable mention in 1984 and was named All-GLVC, All-Region and District Offensive Player of the Year over his four seasons. Fisher sits in the top 10 in program history with 93 points (sixth), 35 goals (eight) and 23 assists (fifth). He also holds the single-game record with five goals scored in a contest.

Angela Healy Jones (’08) was a key member of the Norse Women’s Basketball team from 2004 to 2008, as NKU posted a 92-33 record during her four-year career. She was a big part of a team that reached the NCAA Division II Tournament in three consecutive seasons, including a National Championship in 2007-08, and she is ranked second best shot blocker in program history with 137 rejections and 1.1 blocks per game. In addition to her defense, Healy Jones tallied 1,262 points (18th all-time) on .501 shooting (12th all-time), knocking down 297 free throws (ninth all-time) and pulling down 805 rebounds (seventh all-time). She is also ranked second in rebounds by a Norse in a single season, with 335 rebounds in 2007-08. To close out her career at NKU, Healy Jones was named an All-American honorable mention and All-GLVC First Team as the Norse won the program’s second National Championship in 2008.

Kevin Jordan (’10) is known as one of the best and most versatile pitchers in Norse Baseball program history, winning 21 games over his career from 2006 to 2010. During his time at NKU, Jordan pitched 111 games—a program record—starting at just 17 years-old. He was named GLVC Pitcher of the Year as a senior after posting an 8-3 record in 36 appearances on his way to Pitcher of the Year, All-GLVC, All-Region and All-American honors. Jordan posted 12 complete games during his career with five saves. He ranks in the top 10 in eight career statistical categories.

Zach Koehler (’08) made major contributions both on and off the course for Norse Cross Country during his four years at NKU from 2005 to 2008. As a freshman, Koehler received the NKU Newcomer award, and as a sophomore reached a new level by leading the team to its first National Championship meet appearance since 1979. Koehler had a dream season in 2007 as he earned All-GLVC and became the second NKU athlete in school history to be named All-American after finishing 30th in the NCAA Championship meet. He also became the first NKU Cross Country athlete ever to earn the GLVC's honor of Men's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the year. Koehler accumulated many honors during his time as a student-athlete at NKU, including USTFCCCA Academic All-American honors in 2006 and 2007; and character awards including the 2009 Vince Shulte Athlete of Distinction Award winner, 2009 Thomas J. Kearns Career Achievement Award winner and 2009 Chi Alpha Sigma Member. When he graduated, Koehler was second all-time 5k (15:44); fourth all-time 8k list (25:27); and second all-time NKU 10k list (31:18), with current rankings of eighth in 8k and third in 10k all-time list.

Daryl Landrum served NKU for 27 years as the head men’s golf coach and 23 years as the head women’s golf coach after pioneering the program in 1998. During his tenure, from 1996 to 2022, Landrum won GLVC Coach of the Year nine times and Regional Coach of the Year four times. Just four years after founding the women's golf program, Landrum coached the Norse to a third-place finish at the NCAA Division II Finals in 2002. Under his tutelage, the NKU men’s team qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 14 consecutive seasons, while the women's team qualified or had an individual qualify in 10 of 11 seasons. Landrum won a total of eight GLVC Championships (five men's, three women's) and four NCAA Regional Championships (three men's, one women's), and led the Norse to 74 team victories. The PGA has honored him on multiple occasions, naming him the 2000 KY Junior Golf Leader, the 2006 KY Section Golf Professional of the Year and a Life Member to go along with two KY Youth Development Awards in 2002 and 2007. Landrum also founded the NKY 7 UP Junior League, which held an event at every area course, averaged more than 200 players per year for 20 years and introduced thousands to the game of golf.

Drew McDonald (’19) is known as one of the best players in Norse Men’s Basketball history, where he finished his career as NKU’s all-time leading scorer with 2,066 career points, all-time leading rebounder with 1,081 rebounds, all-time leader in free throws made with 450 successful free throws and all-time leader in games played with 131 games while ranking top 10 all-time in nine other statistical categories. During his career with the Norse, from 2015 to 2019, the team won two Horizon League Championships. McDonald was a nine-time Horizon League Player of the Week, three-time member of the All-Horizon League First Team, three-time member of the Horizon League All-Academic Team, two-time Horizon League All-Tournament Team member, two-time Lou Henson Mid Major All-American, Horizon League All-Freshman Team member, 2019 Horizon League Player of the Year and 2019 Horizon League Tournament MVP. Upon graduation, McDonald was the third player in the history of the Horizon League to post 2,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds and was named to the 2010s Horizon League All-Decade Team.

Amanda Mason Peyton ('11) is an all-time great Norse midfielder, and ranks in the top five in all NKU Women’s Soccer scoring categories. Mason Peyton ranks third in career points as well as in points per game, goals per game, career assists and shots attempted. She also ranks fifth in shots per game and assists per game. Mason Peyton was named GLVC All-Conference during each year of her career at NKU from 2008 to 2011, and was the GLVC Offensive Player of the Year in her final season. She led her team to a GLVC conference title in 2009 and the team made four NCAA tournament appearances, advancing to the third round twice. Amanda was named to the 2009, 2010, and 2011 All-Region team, and was named All-American in 2010 and 2011.

Brenden Stowers ('03) was a four-year NKU student athlete, from 1999 to 2003, who graduated with his name near the top of multiple university records. Stowers’ standout season came during his senior year when he helped lead the Norse to a 25-6 record and a GLVC Championship, to go with All-GLVC, All-Region and All-American honors. He still holds the school records for free throws made with 187 successful free throws and free throws attempted with 226 during a single-season, and also sits top ten in NKU history in career free throws made with 396 successful free throws (third), games played with 125 games and a free throw percentage of .822. Stowers is also ranked 12th all-time with 244 assists and 15th with 1,311 points scored.
