Dr. Tynisha N. Worthy (’08, ’21) isn’t afraid to ask the tough questions.
It all started when she was working as the volunteer & special events coordinator for Lighthouse Youth & Family Services, where she recruited volunteers for the organizations’ programs, planned fundraisers and worked with community stakeholders.
“I saw a lot of young people coming in for various reasons,” she says. “And then I would see them later—on the news, harmed in some way or that they had harmed someone. Or they would come back. I was curious about the policies we had in place. How do we change the environment these young people are in? How do we fix things? The role of a nonprofit is supposed to be that they are created to solve problems. But we weren’t solving any problems.”
