NKU Ranked Among the Safest College Campuses

September 19, 2019— Northern Kentucky University, is ranked as one of the most secure campuses according to a national study by 

NKU has been named on the 100 Most Secure College Campuses list that includes only public or nonprofit schools with four-year programs, student residential facilities and an average enrollment of at least 10,000 students. ASecureLife, a smart home and security company, analyzed 11 years’ worth campus crime reports obtained from the U.S. Department of Education’s Campus Safety and Security database. 

“College is an exciting time and students shouldn’t worry about property crime or dorm break-ins while studying for classes,” said Maru Quevedo, site manager at “Our team wanted to applaud and recognize the colleges that ranked among the top 100 most secure because they stand out and are taking actionable measures to protect students on campus.”

NKU was highlighted for having campus security practices in place, providing safety initiatives to protect students and having one of the lowest rates of both property crime and aggravated assault. 

“Providing a safe living and learning community for all students, faculty and staff is one of our biggest priorities here at NKU. We’re proactive with our approach toward building a secure campus environment,” said Dan Nadler, NKU vice president for Student Affairs.

In addition to the most recent ranking, NKU has been recognized as one of the Safest College Campuses in America by the National Council for Home Safety and Security in 2018, among the Safest College Towns in America by Safewise in 2017 and one of the Safest Colleges in Kentucky by, in 2016.
