“According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, projects that the demand for professionals able to analyze Big Data will grow by 27.9% through 2026. Northern Kentucky University features a top affordable bachelor’s in data science that prepares students to help organizations use their data effectively,” DSD stated in its review of NKU.

NKU launched one of the nation’s first Data Science bachelor’s degree in 2013.  The Data Science program focuses on data analytics, mining and visualization to train students with the foundation needed to tackle exponentially growing technology and business industry needs.

“Technology is constantly evolving, and this global trend is not going to change as innovation spreads,” said Dr. Maureen Doyle, Department of Computer Science chair. “We combine cutting-edge techniques and top-flight faculty research so that students can truly harness big data’s power. The program continues to evolve to meet area and national needs. We are proud to offer the only ranked data science program in the Commonwealth and across our region."

Dr. Doyle was invited to join the Association for Computing Machinery’s Data Science Curriculum Task Force whose goal is to specify the curriculum for all Data Science programs, providing input about our program and bringing back successes and standards from Data Science programs from around the world.

The COI’s Department of Computer Science is home to three bachelor’s degrees, two master’s degrees and nine certificates and minors. All aim to produce graduates who are highly capable problem solvers and are intellectually agile, technically skilled and ethically responsible.
