This was our first stop on our grand tour of Florida.  We drove here from the Jacksonville Airport and ended up with only a couple of hours time to walk the trails and hunt for flesh flies (Sarcophagidae) and blow flies (Calliphoridae).  Unfortunately, the weather was mostly cloudy during our brief stay, and the flies tend to hide when the sun is not out. We saw a gopher turtle crossing the road and tree frogs on the palmetto.  We walked the Limestone Trail and the Santa Fe River Trail, both short hikes.  We did pick up some unwanted passengers (ticks) at the park (we think they found us along the Limestone Trail).  The "river sink" where the Santa Fe River disappears underground was a fascinating site to see.

  • Sarcophagidae
    • Boettcheria latisterna Parker
    • Ravinia derelicta (Walker)
  • Calliphoridae

    • No blow flies collected here.
