> Welcome to my Homepage
- here you can find resources for the classes I teach, and research interests
With me you will work as part of an multi-university,
interdisciplinary team involved in one of three projects related
to Aquatic Ecology and Paleolimnology.
My main research interests are:
(click > Research to find out more about each).
-
Paleolimnology: using fossil diatoms and pigments from lake cores
in the Galapagos Islands, Peru, Bolivia and mainland Ecuador
to reconstruct environmental and climatic histories of South
America and in particular histories of the El Niņo events.
-
Ecology of the Ohio River Basin: Help in the identification and
quantification of algae including diatoms from the Ohio River
and its main tributaries. The algae are used as bioindicators
of environmental conditions and to establish DIBIs (Diatom
Indices of Biological Integrity) for the region.
-
Identify and quantify algae for drinking water utilities along the
Ohio River - this work is coordinated by the Ohio River Sanitation
Commission (ORSANCO). The data is used to get
early warning of potential taste and odor compounds or
algal toxins in drinking water.
I am also the advisor for NKU's Mu-Iota chapter of Beta Beta Beta, the National Biology Honor Society.
