MAT385-001 - Discrete Math - Fall, 2002

EXPECTED BACKGROUND: C or better in MAT 220 and CSC 262.

TEXT: Mathematical Structures for Computer Science, 4th Ed., J. L. Gersting.

GRADING: There will be two exams and a comprehensive final. Homework will be assigned regularly and sometimes handed in for grading of selected problems.

Your course grade will be determined as follows:
Homework: 20%
Two Exams 50%
Final 30%
The tests will be given in class, closed book. Make-up exams will not be given except in extreme circumstances.

HOMEWORK: Homework will be assigned regularly. You should expect to do a lot of homework, and to do it regularly, in order to do well in the course. Some homework assignment will be handed in so that a few homework problems (chosen at random) may be graded.

ATTENDANCE: The student is responsible for all material assigned or discussed in class. Attendance will be taken, and may be used along with class effort (as measured by participation - asking questions, answering other students' questions, group work, etc.) to resolve borderline grades.

WITHDRAWAL: The last day to withdraw from any class is 10/25/2002 with a "W". After that day it is not usually permitted.

OFFICE HOURS: MWF 9:00-10:30, 1:00-2:00. I am also available by appointment, and at random when approached with a smile.
