Day 24: Heart of Mathematics

Because one student still hasn't taken the make-up (through no fault of her own), please do not discuss the test in class. I'll also request your indulgence because I will not handing back the tests today: I want to grade the two make-ups with the ones I've already graded in hand, so that I can fairly grade those in relation to the others.

• By the end of today it would be wonderful if you
  • had your introduction together,
  • started working on your goals and objectives,
  • and had a rough outline of the poster.
    • What will it look like?
    • What will you have to share with people?

• Quick topic overview (5 minutes) - each person will share the topic of his or her poster presentation.

• Pair up with someone (not one that you're working with on your project)

  1. 5 + 5 minutes:

     Each of you take 5 minutes to describe your project to the other person.

  2. 5 minutes:

     Write down everything that you know about your subject, and everything that you'd like to know about (and be able to do with) your project.

  3. 5 + 5 minutes:

     Go over your writings with your partner; ask yourself "do I really know this? Is this something that I need to research? How can I communicate this to a non-expert in the area?"

  4. Rest of time: Class discussion
