I really believe that the hardest thing about volume is simply the fact that the objects are now in three-D, rather than the familiar two-D (which is a lot easier to draw in!). Work very hard to try to conceptualize the three-dimensional objects with which we work in this chapter. Some students will actually get out a knife and cut up some three-D objects, just to get a hang of cross sections, etc. Slice up an orange and estimate its volume!
