Day 06: Heart of Mathematics

Announcements:
- "Favorite section" reviews due today! I'll have the schedule for the rest of the semester out on Wednesday of next week.

  to class on Wednesday.
- Due Wednesday: your solutions to section 1.4 problems
- Next assignment: For Wednesday Read Section 2.2, and begin considering I.17, 19; II.4, 5; III.1, 2.
Our mission today:
- Section 2.1, "Number Contemplation":
  - I.3: Why did the king have him executed?
    - Because of the number 18 446 744 073 709 551 615!
    - a quintillion pennies! (here's a local copy)
  - Can you point to a million of something in this room?
  - Why does nearly every person have many temporal twins on earth; that is, people who were born on the same day and will die on the same day?
    - What would an exception look like? Who would not have a temporal twin?
    - Who would have a lot of temporal twins?
  - I.10: For this game, how do we know that the numbers are always natural?
