"Favorite section" reviews returned! The schedule for the rest
of the semester is in place, and each of you get a copy. Here's the
deal:
Each of you will be responsible for assisting with three
sections. In almost all cases, your section requests were met,
although there were a few that were just too popular, so some
people got squeezed out.
Generally you will be working with a partner.
You and your partner should
plan an activity to illustrate the major notions of the
section,
provide any special instructions to your classmates prior
to coming to class to study your section,
prepare an assignment of four (or more) mindscapes that
you and your classmates will hand in. This should be
something that is not TOO labor intensive -- don't make
your classmates mad!;) These should be problems that
you find interesting, or that fit in well with your
"agenda" for the day.
You will lead discussion of the section on that day.
All students should read the section in advance!
You may notice that there's a Problems/Pause between every two sections or
so: this is a day for discussion of outstanding issues that were raised
by the preceding sections. You can also ask questions about the
problems. The problems of the preceding sections are due following the
Problems/Pause day.
Due today: your solutions to section 1.4 problems.
Due Friday: your Mindscapes from 2.1.
Next assignment (for Friday): study the game called
Fibonacci Nim, described on page 55. We'll be playing that.
