- Last time: Problem pause
- Today: Chance Surprises
- We need to decide on dates for presentations: They begin 12/3, so on the Friday of the week we get back from Thanksgiving! They're coming right up...
- Any volunteers to go early? We've got three dates: 12/3,
12/6, and 12/8. Otherwise, you'll be randomly assigned, in class on Monday.
- The in-class presentation will be oral, and should take
about 10-15 minutes. You will want to make a clear
presentation of your work, and your
results/discoveries.
- Your associated paper will be due with the poster session
on the 10th of December
(since it will have to be attached to the poster).
- We will be taking some time on the 8th, to do
evaluations. This will include peer evaluations of your
work in class (presenting, participating), and your
work on the presentation.
- About the final:
- I'll do a take-home portion, and an in-class portion,
equally weighted.
- We can have a study session for it, if you like, the
weekend before (Saturday or Sunday).
- Mensa
quiz: a coin is flipped 17 times, and each time it comes up heads: what's
the chance that it will be heads on the next flip?
- Experiments from 7.1. How do the following work? How can we model
these to test them?
- "Let's make a deal" problem - already! Do you remember?
- coin problems
- two sons problem
- matching birthday problem
- Definition of probability as limit of frequency
