Day 12 in SCI110: Motion and Freefall
- Spring 2005 Schedule
- Last time: Exam 1
- Today:
- Discussion of test
- mean: 75%
- standard deviation: 8.7%
- Project proposals?
- Motion and free fall
- Chp 2: 22-31
- time: t
- position: x(t)
(position is a function of time)
- speed: d=rt
- velocity: combination of speed and direction
- Gravity with Tim and Moby with Tim and Moby
- Acceleration with Tim and Moby
- acceleration:
- change in speed
- change in direction (electrons spinning around a nucleus)
- average acceleration: (final velocity - initial velocity)/(time elapsed)
- acceleration and deceleration are both examples of acceleration!
- net force - the sum of all forces acting on an object
- inertia - tendency of an object to maintain its motion if the net force is zero
- free fall - fall under the force of gravity, neglecting air resistence
- Galileo and Aristotle
- d=1/2*g*t2
- Questions: p. 45/1-3,5; Group B: 2-3
- Two experiments
- Homework:
- Chp. 2: 32-38
- p. 45/8-12
