The Taylor series expansion (with error term) is the single most important analysis tool we have used, and it may lay claim to that title for all of numerical analysis. "Analysis" is part of the name of this course, and it ties us into calculus. Then we plow this theoretical tool back into the methods of calculus, to develop methods for modeling and calculation when other theoretical methods fail (e.g. finding antiderivatives, solving equations to find roots).
