There and back again....

This illustrates that the Figure 8 knot can't be tricolored. If you start by coloring a strand with 1 color, and then try coloring a second with the same color, you'll end up boxed in and you'll have to draw them all with the same color. If we try two colors to start, we'll also run into a corner, where we have an intersection with only two colors.
