Incorrect: \[ \pi\int_{1}^{4}\left(\frac{1}{\sqrt{x}}-\frac{1}{x}\right)^2 dx \] Correct: \[ \pi\int_{1}^{4}\left(\left(\frac{1}{\sqrt{x}}\right)^2-\left(\frac{1}{x}\right)^2\right) dx \]
You can roughly approximate your volume -- does it make sense?
I told Caitlin this: "My objective is to teach you how to construct inverses -- and show some useful examples. But we could spend the rest of the semester doing this for more and more functions, and I'm not thinking that that would be a useful way to spend our time. So maybe we've constructed enough inverses, and we should move on to other things. But I hope that you understand how we constructed the inverses we did, and could make a good attempt to construct new ones, if need be."
