Models of Growth: Rates of Change
Project 1: The Early Spread of AIDS in the US
- Introduction
- Plotting the Data
- Finding a Model Function
- Checking Your Model Function
- Using Your Model Function
Introduction
In the early years of the AIDS epidemic in the United States (1980-1993) the number of diagnosed cases of AIDS grew very rapidly, and there was great interest in modeling this growth. In this project, you will look at the data from this time period and construct a model for the growth in the number of diagnosed cases. Then we will compare the model with more recent data. The construction of the model will require an understanding of logarithmic plotting. This was discussed in Section 2.6
