4.7 The General Power Rule

In this section, we have established the General Power Rule

The formula is correct throughout the domain of the function `x^(r-1)`. For positive integer values of `r` the formula is correct for all values of `x`. For negative integer values of `r` the domain consists of all `x` except zero. For other rational and all irrational values of `r,` the `r`-th power function is defined for positive numbers `x`, and the General Power Rule works for these functions as well.
