When I woke up Tuesday I was pretty bummed that I was going to have to go down to the polls and stand out in the cold to collect data. When I was sitting on my couch putting it off I kept thinking, either people are going to be rude or people are just going to try and avoid me by walking the long way too their car. But indeed it was nothing like that.

When I first arrived, which was around 4:26pm exactly because I checked my watch, I gathered my container and started waking up to the front of the building, which was a local community center in a subdivision I live in front of called Hidden Valley Community Center, this is where I met some new friends. There were a couple of men standing outside the election who were campaigning, so of coarse I got their vote, and they were very helpful in doing so. Then I just randomly started walking up to people, I didn’t exactly go by the script, but I was getting a lot of participation.

I tried to approach everyone, young, old, men, and women. Some older women that I approached did not want to participate, which I should have figured that wouldn’t have, but it was worth a shot. I had 4 people not want to participate, which I didn’t think was too bad considering I asked 34 people. I asked a man, whom was willing to give his anonymous vote at first, until I told him to place who he voted for into the container and then he could just dispose of the other 2. I asked one of the older gentlemen who he was and they said he was a lawyer and that they were even shocked he stopped to listen to me.

I also noticed that more men were willing to give their vote then women, a lot of women turned me down. Another thing I noticed was that half the people I asked did NOT know who they even voted for! I got a lot of, “Oh shoot, I don’t even know who I voted for, well I voted straight republican/democrat, so whoever that was.” I was respectful with anyone who told me that, but I found it kind of sad that they are voting for someone that don’t even know anything about just because they are of that one party.

I stayed from 4:26 to about 5:20ish, I got my 30 votes and was ready to leave.
