On Tuesday November 2, 2010, Sarah and I conducted an Exit
poll at Taylor Mill Elementary School. The results we came up with were that of
twenty total people we came in contact with. Fourteen of the twenty said yes
they would participate and six said no thanks. Our tallies in the end were
favored to Rand Paul with thirteen votes and Jack Conway, one.
This was a different experience
because I was never into anything with elections, considering I have never
voted before. We came across people who were more than willing to give us there
anonymous vote as they exited the building along with one lady I called the
Devil because she was mean and was the one person of the day who did not want
to be bothered. I was glad to get out of class for a day and hang out with my
class mate because we were able to talk about odds and ends and get different
perspectives on the project.
An elderly man came up after he put
his vote in our box and asked what the project was for. We told him we were
with NKU and that we were just getting a class project together. This man being
older, say sixties, gave us the grandpa speech that we get from all of our
parents or grandparents who have been in the War’s or grown up in the long
background of politics. He rambled on for about ten minutes about the new
President and politics but we just agreed with everything he said because I do
not like to give my opinion about subjects like these. I like to keep my
thoughts to myself but I was more than happy to listen to him because it was
interesting to know and understand people’s thoughts on the new age elections.
When we first got to the school
there was no one there but the poll people. We sat out on a cold concrete bench
for about forty five minutes doing the project. There were young folks and
older folks who came in with their families, and they even had kid voting for
the youngsters which I thought was pretty cool because I do not recall ever
being able to get involved when I was younger.
The tallies at the end showed
a strong sway to one side of the candidates and it allowed me to see how people
really feel about politicians. Out of the twenty members we had participated
only one voted for Conway. This experiment let me see beforehand what the real
results of the ballot would be and I think that it was a close, but good
election this year.
