Response to Polls
I used to go
to the voting polls on November 2nd every election with my mom. One
of the voting centers for the city of Mason, and Warren County in general, is
across the street from our house. So the experience was not new for me although
the location was. I went to Campbell County court house around 3:30 to 4:15. I
was able to get a lot of positive responses from most people. I went for a goal
of 40 people and only three refused to assist me.
Before I
started to ask people to help participate in collecting my data I approached
one of the women working at the door to let her know what I was doing. She said
she had seen one other student that day doing something similar to what I was.
So she gave me permission to stand a little ways from the front entrance. I
don’t have any really interesting stories like some people shared in class on
Thursday. But there was one women who stayed and talked with me for ten minutes
about who she was voting for and why. I would describe her as eccentric but it
was entertaining to say the least.
Out of the
forty people I “interviewed,” twenty seven of the ballots were voting for Rand
Paul and ten voting for Jack Conway. That makes 72% of my voters electing Rand
Paul and 28% electing Jack Conway. I really enjoyed doing this assignment
because it was nice to get out for class instead of sitting in a lecture. I met
a lot of interesting people in the process and got to see how other counties
run their elections differently than the ones that I have previously observed.
