Math 115

Exit Poll Paper

When I arrived to vote there were no flags outside of my precinct so I had to ask the ladies working where to set up camp. They asked me what I was doing and I explained to them that this was an assignment for my math class.  They gladly told me where I could legally conduct the exit poll. Most everyone that I talked to wanted to participate in our experiment when I told them it was for a math class. However, there were a few people who got irate and told me that it was none of my business which candidate they preferred, but those people were far and few between. Then, quite a few voters informed me that I was the topic of much debate with the ladies working the booth inside my precinct. Another guy told me” Don’t let them give you any shit because what your doing is legal.” I got quite a kick out of that and didn’t expect people to stick up for me. Another voter was asked by the ladies in the precinct if I was trying to sway voters which she replied “No she’s just doing an exit poll for her math class.”  Then the old lady precinct brigade came outside to question me after I already told them what I was doing. (I guess Alzheimer’s disease is pretty rampant in Boone County.)  They were about to call the police on me but luckily I had printed out a copy of the exit polling statute. I showed them the statute and informed them that they were supposed to have flags 300ft from the voting booths. They said that they were not sent any flags and had never experienced anything like me.  While the two ladies were talking to each other, I got my last few votes and booked it out of there before I was arrested. This experience was interesting and was more exciting than I expected. I also got to politely tell uppity old ladies where to stick there polls so; this was definitely something to remember.

My precinct was at Larry A. Ryle High School 10379 U.S. 42 Union, KY 41091. I began at 1:00 pm and ended at 1:30pm. I got 19 actual votes and 5 people refused to give me their vote.
