Voting

November 8, 2010

When I went out to the polls on November 2nd, 2010 it was pretty hectic. I was in my hometown, Louisville, KY at around the 2nd rush for voting at 4:30 in the afternoon. The people that I came across were pretty friendly but I also came across some rude people as well.  Overall, my experience at the precinct was fun and exciting since this was my first time even being at the polls.

The results at my precinct were twelve votes Jack Conway, nine for Rand Paul and 5 denials, having a total of 26 people that I contacted. I was out at the precinct for about thirty minutes (ending at 4:30pm); I believe that I had more Jack Conway votes because of the part of town I was in. Where my polls were was the Shively area which is a good mixture of whites and blacks but blacks are starting to move in more into the suburban areas that Shively has. I came to notice that the people who did vote for Rand Paul were middle age and predominantly white. The voters who voted for Jack Conway were young people that were both of white and black.

A bad experience that I had when trying to take the votes was when I approached an older woman. She didn’t want to help me at all. She was very rude and wanted to get away from me as fast as she could. I didn’t hassle her to get her opinion because someone came up and helped me with this project.

What I truly learned from this experience was that voting is something that people hold dear because having this freedom was not always guaranteed.
