Equations of Log and Exponential Functions
In this section we're merely using inverse functions to extract an argument from a function.
- For example, suppose you have an exponential function, but the argument is tucked inside and you want it out. Use the inverse function of an exponential -- a log:
- If it's a log function whose argument you want, use the exponential (its inverse):
- Sometimes we'll be compelled to use other solution techniques, e.g. write
a quadratic with exponentials or logs as the variables (similar to the equation
techniques we studied when we were talking about trig functions).
