Day 9, Mat194: Mathematical Sciences Seminar

• Announcements
  • Next week we're going to be participating in the Kentucky MAA (Mathematical Association of America) section meetings (rather than having a common set of readings). I'll be signing you all up for the virtual conference, and will expect you to "go" to a pair of talks (Friday and Saturday -- there will several, at different times, to choose from), and report on them. If you have any conflicts that weekend (the 26th and 27th) please let me know.

  • I just submitted midterm grades.

  • Some of you are doing great, and need not worry. Please keep it up, however! I certainly appreciate your enthusiastic participation.

  • Some of you received failing grades, and may want to withdraw. It always saddens me to fail students when this class is so easy -- but I do.

  • Some of you received passing midterm grades, but you're on the edge. Step it up, or I will fail you.

  • We have an office hour zoom at 9:00 on Wednesdays, in case anyone needs to discuss anything.

• This week I want to keep it lively, but less free-form: most of you will not know Steven Strogatz, but he's another popularizer of mathematics (on the more serious and less snarky side, however!).
