- Last Time: Test 1
- Today:
- Homework for sections 9.1-9.2 will be due Thursday.
- Our first test is history.
- Add three points to your score
- A key is available on-line.
- Some comments:
- Check that I've added up your score right:
- Sub-scores are in the bottom left corner of each page.
- Keep up the good work drawing those normal curves!
- Way to follow my direction when I asked for a percentage, rather
than a proportion or probability.
- Don't abuse the equal sign. Don't write things like
.4=1.28
It's just bad form.
- Serious problems:
- Not knowing the difference between the parameter and the
statistic; and
- Not having a good handle on the use of the standard
deviation as the basic measure of deviation.
Keep working on these!
- Chapter 9: section 9.3 - sampling distribution of a proportion
- Chapter 10: sections 10.1-10.3 - Confidence Intervals
- point estimators versus interval estimators
- unbiased estimator
- has the same mean as that of the parameter
- This is why there's an n-1 in the sample
variance formula.
- consistent estimator
- gets better with increasing sample size
- Between two unbiased estimators, the one with smaller
variance is relatively efficient
- Basic idea of confidence interval estimator of mu

- Example: 10.54
