MAT212 - Statistics for Business Applications I - Spring, 2004

INSTRUCTOR: Andy Long. Office: ST 328; phone: 572-5794; email: longa@nku.edu

MEETING TIME/PLACE: TR 6:15-7:30 p.m., in Room ST 250

EXPECTED BACKGROUND: Mathematics ACTE score of 18 or higher, or grade of C or better in MAH 099

TEXT: Statistics for Management and Economics, 6th Ed., Keller and Warrack. Material will be discussed from Chapters 1, 2, 4, 8-13, and 18. Minitab, a statistical software package, will be used extensively.

GRADING: There will be three exams and a comprehensive final. Homework will be assigned regularly and handed in for grading of selected problems (chosen randomly).

Your course grade will be determined based on the following point totals (using the standard 90/80/70/60 grade distribution):
Homework: 100 points
Three Exams 300 points
Final 200 points
The tests will be given in class, closed book. Make-up exams will not be given except in extreme circumstances. Homeworks will generally be collected, and are worth 10 points each. I will collect more than ten, and then use only the ten best scores (I will drop the rest).

HOMEWORK: Homework will be assigned regularly. You should do the homework regularly in order to do well in the course. Some homework assignment will be handed in and graded.

ATTENDANCE: The student is responsible for all material assigned or discussed in class. Attendance will be taken, and may be used along with class effort (as measured by participation - asking questions, answering other students' questions, group work, etc.) to resolve borderline grades.

WITHDRAWAL: The last day to withdraw from any class with a "W" is 3/27/2004. After that day it is not usually permitted.

OFFICE HOURS: MWF 12:00-1:00, 1:50-2:30; TR 4:30-6:00. I am also available by appointment, and at random when approached with a smile.
