Jennifer Higdon's gentle Soliloquy, originally a movement from an English horn concerto, was arranged for clarinet and strings expressly for Apple. He played the lyrical themes with admirable tone control and expressive contour. The strings -- Mastrangelo, Glansdorp, violinist Leonid Rabinovitch, violist Fergus Scarfe (New Virtuosi's director) -- were equally sensitive.
