We know that this pair is for cross-eyed viewing by the shadows: e.g., the image on the right shows a little more of the underside of the left side of the top green ball, consistent with the left eye view. For example, if you hold your finger out in front of your face, between your eyes, the left eye sees more skin behind the left of the finger.

Thus, the eyes must cross to view opposite-sided images.
