Turning Problems Into Solutions
I have a theory, developed over my lifetime:
Everything is useful eventually.
As a corollary, we can say that everyone is useful eventually, too!
Sometimes it's just a struggle to determine how someone or
something is going to prove useful.
It's wonderful when something which is a problem solves another problem. The
problems cancel, as it were.
- We broke up a concrete patio in our yard, and my brother-in-law Kpandja
and I used a concrete saw to make giant concrete steps, to create a path
leading up to our front door. We needed the path, and we had a bunch of waste
concrete -- voila, turning problems (too much concrete) into solutions (we
needed some steps).
- I was working in my garden, in a section dedicated to corn and
beans. Raspberry runners from the patch next door kept invading, and I would
angrily dig them up and throw them in the compost heap. Then I realized what a
fool I was: raspberry plants are actually fairly expensive. So I began
transplanting them to a new section of my land, and have a new raspberry patch
on the way.
Every problem is an opportunity. Rethink your problems!
