The Lag

The lag is a measuring stick, which the user determines: space is measured in lags, and the variogram is usually plotted at integral values of lag: one lag, two lags, etc.

For example, the lag might be a mile, and so we would form distance classes of all pairs separated by less than a mile, all those pairs from one mile to two miles apart, etc.
