P. Marilyn Cline Long's Cinnamon Coffee Cake
Ingredients:
-  1/2 cup shortening
-  1 cup of sugar
-  2 eggs
-  2 cups flour
-  1 teaspoon baking soda
-  1 teaspoon baking powder
-  1/2 teaspoon salt
-  1 cup sour milk or buttermilk
-  1 teaspoon vanilla
-  1/3 cup of brown sugar
-  1/4 cup of white sugar
-  1 teaspoon of cinnamon
-  1/2 cup of chopped nuts
     Mix together 1/2 cup shortening and 1 cup of sugar.  Add 2 eggs 
     and mix.  Then add the following and mix:  2 cups flour, 1 
     teaspoon baking soda, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon 
     salt.  Then add 1 cup sour milk or buttermilk (can be replaced 
     with 1 cup of milk with 1 teaspoon cider vinegar) and 1 teaspoon 
     vanilla.  Mix it all together and you have "the batter".
     
     The following ingredients, when put together, constitute "the 
     topping": 1/3 cup of brown sugar, 1/4 cup of white sugar, 1 
     teaspoon of cinnamon and 1/2 cup of chopped nuts.
     
     Now, grease a 9x13 pan and place 1/3 of "the batter" in the base 
     of the pan.  Then sprinkle 1/2 of "the topping" on top of "the 
     batter".  Now put most of the rest of "the batter" in, followed 
     by the remaining "topping".  Finally put the last little bit of 
     "batter" on the very top.   Bake at 325 degrees for 40 minutes, 
     and within 35 minutes your mouth will be watering from the 
     wonderful smells coming from the kitchen.
