Using the Outline Tab and Clip Art to
Create a Slide Show
Using Outline
Tab
- Outline
is a summary of thoughts, headings
and subheadings
Note: Graphic
objects, such as pictures,
graphs, or tables,
do not display in Outline tab. (slide
icon next to slide title displays with a small graphic on
it)
- Attributes
for text in outline tab are the
same as in normal view except for color
and paragraph style
Outline Hierarchy
- PowerPoint formats a title style and five
levels of body text in an outline
- graphic designers suggest a limit of three
levels
- consider combining content in one level
or using two different slides
- each level is indented
- Business and sales presentations use
summary information using only three levels
Note: PowerPoint
can make slides from an outline
created in another word processor if
saved as a text or RTF
file. (Rich Text Format)
Outline Tab Characteristics
- The 3 panes - tabs, slide, and notes - shown in
normal view also display when Outline tab is clicked
- notes pane displays below slide pane
- in tabs pane, slide text displays with slide
number and icon
- In Outline tab,
can view title and body
text, add and delete slides, drag
and drop slides or text, promote and demote text, save and
print, copy and paste slides or text to and from
other presentations, apply design template, and import an
outline.
Changing Slide Layout
- A layout specifies the arrangement of
placeholders on a slide
- placeholders arranged in various
configurations can contain text, such as slide title or a bulleted
list, or contain content, such as clips, pictures, charts, tables, and
shapes
- The placement of the text, in relationship to
content, depends on slide layout
- Slide Layout task pane - used to choose a
slide layout
Slide Layout task pane (4 areas)
- Text Layouts - Title Slide, Title and Text,
Title Only, and Title and 2-Column Text layouts
- Content Layouts - blank slide, variety of
placeholders for charts, tables, clip art, pictures, diagrams, and media
clips
- Text and Content Layouts - have
placeholders for a title, a bulleted list, and content
- Other Layouts - have placeholders for title
and one object, such as clip art, charts, media clips, tables,
organization charts, and charts
Adding Clip
Art to a Slide
- Clip
Art -
add professional-looking graphic images (uses Microsofts Clip
Organizer)
- Microsoft Clip Organizer - is shared among
all Microsoft Office applications
- Insert Clip
Art task pane - allows search for clips using descriptive keywords,
file names, media file formats, and clip collections
- clip collections - combine topic-related
clips into categories, such as Academic, Business,
and Technology
- can also create your own collections

E-mailing
Slide Show from PowerPoint
- E-mail
attachments - can be used for a PowerPoint
slide show
- can e-mail
the presentation directly from
within PowerPoint
- users need e-mail
address and a 32-bit e-mail program
compatible with a Messaging Application
Programming Interface, such as Outlook,
Outlook Express, or Microsoft
Exchange Client
