Outstanding Biology Graduate 2024: Seth Gregg

Scientific Excellence Seth Gregg started undergradiate research in Dr. Emily Shifley's lab as part of the UR-STEM program in Summer 2021 and continued for the next two years. "Because Seth devoted a significant amount of time working on undergraduate research, I have been able to observe his excellent abilities to think like a scientist and be careful and thorough in his work," said Dr. Shifley. "Seth was able to work independently, responsibly, and efficiently. He will certainly be an author on the publications of this data once we have submitted it for peer-review.  

Seth presented his research results twice at the NKU Celebration of Summer Research in 2021 and 2022, and he also presented a virtual poster presentation at the National IDeA Symposium of Biomedical Research Excellence in December 2022. "Seth was responsible and hard-working at the bench in the research lab, but he was also interested in understanding why we were doing these experiments," said Dr. Shifley. "Seth appreciated that our basic research might eventually help with understanding why certain birth defects occur, a great indication that Seth is truly interested in medicine and preventing or treating diseases."
