Welcome to the counselor education program at Northern Kentucky University. We believe we offer outstanding counselor training programs for individuals who want to become school and/or clinical mental health counselors. GRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAMS: 

Northern Kentucky University offers three counseling program options for those seeking master’s degrees in the field of counseling:

·  Master of Arts in School Counseling

·  Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling

·  Dual-Degree program in School Counseling (M.A.) and Clinical Mental Health Counseling (M.S.)

ACCREDITATION

The Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling programs at Northern Kentucky University are both accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Students graduating from a CACREP program are assured a quality educational experience. In addition, graduates of such programs can become Nationally Certified Counselors by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) once they have passed the National Counselor Examination for Licensure and Certification (NCE).  

WHY NKU?

Experienced faculty: Nearly all courses in our counseling programs are taught by full-time faculty at NKU with significant clinical mental health and school-based counseling experiences.

Program flexibility: Our programs are designed to accommodate both full-time and part-time students with classes typically scheduled Monday through Thursday evenings.

Student-centered placements: In preparation for practicum and internship experiences, our faculty assess each student’s learning needs and organizes placements with a diverse array of schools and mental health centers in Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana.
