	Costa Rica is one of the most bio diverse environments in the world. Home to over 9000 identified species of vascular plants, including over 900 different species of trees, 2oo mammal species and over 35000 species of insects, it comes to no surprise that you need Deet to survive. The habitat ranges from the lowland jungles to the high bare mountain peaks. Costa Rica is also one of the countries that has the highest amount of protected land in the world, nearly 25% of the national territory are national parks and reserve. Map of Costa Rican Parks and Reserves What our group did on day 5 was explore the rainforest near where we stayed in Punta Marenco. We saw sloths, birds and many other varieties of animals. Among them were the famous Termites and Ants with their workers and soldiers hard at work. We also saw Howler Monkeys clinging to trees towering high above the canopy, with waterfalls cascading down the mountain side and a large tree whose roots were wider then other tree trunks surrounding it. We also took a hike that explored the natural biodiversity of the rainforest. This was an experience that would forever impact our views of the world that we live in. This was a trip that will hopefully bring in to light more of what we have in our world and what we need to do to preserve it.
