- Last time: the beauty of fractals
(shoeboxes of universes!)
- Today: Risky business!
- Reminder: your papers are due the 5th (first round, of two). The
following are suggested guidelines (but not too rigid):
- Text: 5-10 pages, double spaced
- At least three sources in your bibliography (preferably at
least one paper source)
- May include the rest in appendices (graphs, charts,
images, additional material).
- Hand back problems for Sections 6.1/6.2
(graded #8).
- Big question: if you got it wrong, did you preserve
symmetry? Symmetry may provide a clue that there is a
problem!
- Collect problems I.1,8,9,15,16 from section 6.3.
- Mensa
quiz: a coin is flipped 17 times, and each time it comes up heads: what's
the chance that it will be heads on the next flip?
- Experiments from 7.1. How do the following work? How can we model
these to test them?
- "Let's make a deal" problem - already! Do you remember?
- coin problems
- two sons problem
- matching birthday problem
- Definition of probability as limit of frequency
- Problems from 7.2:
