    • Forget deceleration: we'll just talk about acceleration, but realize that it can work in two senses: in the positive direction, or in the negative.
    • If you're moving in the positive direction and you experience a positive acceleration, then you'll move faster; if you're moving in the negative direction and you experience a positive acceleration, then you'll move slower.
    • gravity on the face of the earth always has the tendency to move you towards the center of the earth: if you're moving away from the earth, it will try to slow you down; if you're moving towards the earth, it will speed you up!
